Hey-O.  It’s Foodie Pen Pals reveal day where I show you all what masterpiece I created with my entire FPP box.

After reading through Foodie Pen Pals reveal posts last month I realized everybody says “It’s that time again.”  So I vow never to say that.  Or type it.  Or even think it.

Actually, I kinda wish it wasn’t that time again.  Time always always always gets away from me and while I have my posts all planned out in my head weeks in advance, sometimes I don’t execute them till the last second.  Take this month.  I knew exactly what I wanted to make using the contents of my FPP box, but waited till Thursday morning at 5:00 a.m. to do it.  That’s the morning before reveal day. This little fact will be important later.

My box this month came from Jessica, a fellow Midwesterner!!!!  Thanks Jessica, you are awesome and I was SO excited when I opened it.  I’ve loved all my FPP boxes but this one was particularly great.

Jessica sent me a rice blend.  Awesome.

Lip gloss.  LIP GLOSS!!!  I love lip gloss.  Even more awesome.

BBQ Sauce.  Tangy and awesome.  Yeah, I said it again.  Awesome.

Chocolate. With cacao nibs.  CACAO NIBS!  I need to stop getting so excited.  I love dark chocolate and the cacao added the perfect crunch.  I’ve been wanting to try them for awhile to see what the hype was all about and now I do.  I am jumping on that bandwagon and not jumping off.  Ever.  Unless the chocolate jumps with me so we can be together always.  Awesome.

Trader Joe’s Roasted Coconut Chips. This is another product I saw on a blog post and really really really wanted to try.  I always mean to get out to TJ’s but rarely ever do.  Honestly, if you ask me, that place is overwhelming.  There is so much interesting stuff there it’s hard to pick out the true gems.  I’ll just have Jessica shop there for me cause she seems to know her stuff.  Wait for it . . . wait for it . . . AWESOME!

Then there was this tub of nut and spice seasoning.  I tasted a bit and it reminded me a lot of the rub I encrusted flounder with that one time. Nutty and cuminy.  This will last awhile and I think that’s awesome too.

Lastly Raw Superfood nut butter and Green Superfood powder.  I’ve had this brand of nut butters before and wasn’t a fan so I left this ingredient out of my recipe.  That might be cheating, but it is what it is.  If I had used it I probably would have rubbed it on the chicken before the nutty seasoning.

Yeah, I made chicken encrusted with the dukkah seasoning.  At 5:00 a.m.in the morning.

I also made the rice pilaf at 5:00 a.m. in the morning by combining 1 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup pineapple juice, 1 cup rice and 1/2 teaspoon Green Superfood powder.  It simmered away, smelling very much like dinner when it should have been breakfast.  After 45 minutes or so I added a few tablespoons of pineapple juice, a handful of coconut chips and some diced pineapple.  I did not measure any of it.  It was 5:00 a.m. in the morning people.

Then I microwaved a half cup of the BBQ sauce with a half square of the chocolate.  This may seem crazy to you but adding cocoa to chili is quite common in this area and so this wasn’t much of a stretch.

The sauce was plopped over the chicken.

And the rice.  And dinner (breakfast?) was served.

Except it was 5:00 a.m. in the morning and I was not about to eat dinner for breakfast.  This only works in cases of leftover pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving and cold pizza.

Also it was too early to photograph my awesomeness outside so the entire plate went in the fridge where it sat till about 9:30 a.m.

Again, too early to be eating dinner not to mention the fact I wasn’t hungry from my scrambled egg breakfast an hour and a half earlier.

At 9:30 a.m. I took the entire plate, cold, outside in the cold for its photoshoot.  Brrrrrrr.  See the frost?

Where am I getting with all of this?  Well, I never ate my Foodie Pen Pal masterpiece.  After all the above occurred I took the cold plate of food, placed it in some tupperware, stored it in the freezer and promptly headed out to visit family for a few days.

And there it sits.  In the freezer.

I hate to be one of those bloggers that teases to get readers to come back to their blog, but the cold and hard truth is you will have to come back on Monday to see how this whole mess turned out.  Was it tasty?  I don’t know.  It sure smelled tasty.

Have a great weekend and make sure to check out The Lean Green Bean for more Foodie Pen Pal awesomeness and I will see you on Monday for the rest of the story.

Oh, and if you don’t know how this all works by now, well . . . you must be new here and HI!  WELCOME! Click here to read more about my Foodie Pals Chopped Challenges and here if you want to donate money to charity for December’s FPP.  CHARITY PEOPLE!  Go forth and do good.

Question of the Day: Tell me something about yourself.  Anything.

  1. That is a fantastic FPP box! Except the lip gloss. Don’t get me wrong. You know I love lip gloss, but the red and white and the I and U, ugh. Boiler Up! Um, those coconut chips are on my next TJ’s shopping list (along with the chocolate salted caramels Cinnamon teased us with).

  2. nice box! <=== lol

once again, you knocked 'er outta the park. Also, I must have never gotten my foodie pen pal match ….. this is no good. I'm going to have to check my spam. I thought I signed up, but then the Hurricane Sandy one came out about the same time, so I think I signed up for that one instead? I'm confused. :/

    • It’s great of TLGB to set up December FPP for charity. When I first saw she was planning something I thought maybe we’d be sending actual boxes to victims. That would probably be waaaaaay more complicated.

  3. this all looks great! she hooked you up with a good box! i really really think you should go to TJ’s more often. it’s sooo amazing!!! just be ready to spend a lot of $$ the first few times you go…. but after you get used to it, it won’t be as overwhelming and awe-inspiring. Well, maybe awe-inspiring 🙂

  4. Diana @ Veggienextdoor

Wow! What a fun idea to play CHOPPED with your Foodie Pen Pals box. I am impressed that you were able to incorporate ALL the ingredients into your dish (and even though you didn’t use the nutbutter, you had an idea for it).

And I ALWAYS say “It’s that time again”. I can never think of a different intro so kudos to you for coming up with one 🙂

  5. Hopefully leaving it in the freezer makes it even better!

  6. I wish I knew your feelings on nibs. I would have tossed some into the box you’re getting. Oh well. Maybe another time. 🙂 I like the sound of the BBQ sauce!

    • Awww, you are too sweet! I wish I had known my feelings on nibs before now too. I am pretty sure they can only make life better 😉

  7. This is probably the most genius idea ever!! I love FPP…I love Chopped, so combining them is a great idea! Glad you enjoyed your package!

  8. where oh where do I find nibs? I hear about them and have no idea really what they are? Are they like chocolate chips? Chocolate sprinkles? I just don’t understand.
You know I love lip gloss so congrats on that one!

I have also sworn NEVER to say “Hello” “its that time again” or anything of the sort at the beginning of blog posts. Its tough. I’m sure I’ve done both. I think yo yo yo would be perfect. I might try it and see how it feels.

    • I thought they tasted like crunchy dark chocolate. I know I have seen them at our local specialty grocery store, but the price tag has steered me away. I think it was seven-ish bucks for a box. I am buying some for sure now though!

You do seem like a “yo yo yo” girl. 😉

  9. I (rather hastily) tried to explain to Joanna in my note that I grew up ten minutes from the Ohio State line and hence knew a ton of OSU fans. When I knew my box was going to Ohio, I had to include some IU swag. I didn’t expect to encounter Purdue fans, lol. Banner up! Glad you enjoyed the box! Hopefully the sweet and savory will be a good combo. And I’m definitely ordering some dukkah for myself this week.
