Day 22 in the January Blog a Day challenge is kids.  You’d think this one would be cut and dry for me as I have exactly one kid.  Sweetey Petey.

Except I don’t have exactly one kid.  I have three kids, two of them just have more legs than Sweetey Petey.

If you’ve ever owned a dog, especially a dog on your own, while living alone, or before having the two legged kid variety, you’d know that a dog can be just about as close to a kid as a kid can get without actually being a kid.

It really is a blurry line.

Take Sweetey Petey and our poodle, The Snoops, for example.  It’s easy to get the two confused.

Sweetey Petey can often be found playing in the poodle’s bed . . .

. . . while the poodle can often be found relaxing in Sweetey Petey’s favorite chair.

They both have monkey stuffed animals.

They also both sorta have a bear stuffed animal. The same bear stuffed animal.

This is where the good mom bad mom part comes in.

You see my grandma sent Sweetey Petey the above bear for Christmas.  The thing is, Sweetey Petey doesn’t so much like stuffed bears.  It’s not like he dislikes stuffed bears specifically, he just doesn’t care about them one way or another.  They mostly sit in his closet untouched.

When this particular bear showed up, Sweetey Petey was more interested in the gift bag it arrived in than the bear itself.  So much more interested, in fact, that none of us noticed The Snoops had immediately snatched the bear away for her own, laying on top of him to keep him safe from potentially curious little boys.

Fortunately for The Snoops, The Pete ignores the Christmas bear to this very day and the newest furry friend has continued to reside in the poodle’s loving embrace.

Still, the question remains does this make me a good mom or a bad mom?  A good mom to my four legged kid.  A bad mom to my two legged kid.

This post was brought to you by the January Blog a Day challenge and 22 Paws, a fun monthly link up hosted by Cinnamon over at Eat Pray Tri.

Not 23 Paws, mind you, because I was not about to make dessert for my dogs just to post something pet related on the 23rd.  In related news, tomorrow’s challenge topic is dessert and I’m tacking on a little blog love as well.  Also a tummy ache ’cause MAN is there a lot of sugar in this recipe.  It’s kinda called Sugar Pie.

    1. We have a stuffed monkey too. It’s pretty standard to have a stuffed monkey, I think.

    2. I have always referred to Oscar as my kid. And it’s often confused people when I mention my 3 kids since I only have two two-legged kids.

      • You tweeted once when you were pregnant with Pumpkin about having one kid on the front and one in the back (in the Ergo) while cooking. I totally wondered why you were holding Oscar while cooking.

    3. I think you are a GREAT mom. You are teaching the value of sharing is caring. Very important lesson if you ask me. I am obviously on board with the four legged kids. OBVIOUSLY. I love that you got a jump start on the 23Paws. Although I would have liked to see some dessert for dogs. My poor dogs NEVER get to eat any dessert. ;-)

    4. Am I a bad mom because I let my little kids play with dog toys too? One of my dogs always steals stuffed animals from my kids. There are a few we’ve let him keep.

I do think there is one advantage of the four-legged kids – they don’t talk back and they think I’m awesome. My kids have their moments of thinking I know nothing these days, so it’s nice to have the adoring love of my pups.

      Happy 23 PAWS.

      • When the boy was an infant, the first toy we bought him (I think) was a rubber squeaky thing with a nipple facsimile on its head. For what it’s worth, it was quite life-like. :) The packaging went on and on talking about how the squeak will teach the youngster Cause and Effect and the natural rubber smell will help him explore his developing senses.

I called BS and knew we could’ve gotten the exact same thing at PetSmart for a third of the price.

      • As Cinnamon says, we are teaching them to share!
