Month 7 in the Beginner Block of the Month series.

BOM 7 Both RW

I printed and cut out the patterns for Month 8.  I even cut and pinned on fabric to section 1 of each pattern piece.  And there I stopped.  The last block, Month 9 is out too and I’m debating going another way completely.  So I’m pondering.  I have a few other projects to finish up before I get any farther on this one.  I did lay out the blocks I’ve done so far and snapped a quick I-Phone pic.  I’ll try to post that this month.

Honestly, I haven’t been sewing as much as I’d like to.  Too much other stuff needs done right now.

I did finish my Le Challenge project for the Wilderness theme.  I posted a previous sneak peek here.  And here’s another:

I’m going to stop with the words on these beginner paper pieced BOM posts.  It’s all pretty self explanatory by now.

Most days I feel like I take a decent picture.  Yesterday was not one of those days.

BOM 5 block 2 done RW

This picture stinks and the colors are so off but at least the block is done right?  I’m really getting motivated to catch up on this project.  I feel like I’ve been working on it forever and a day.  Once I catch up there’s only two months left!  Two more 6×12 blocks and one 12×12.  I’m excited to complete this quilt and hang the finished product on the wall of the master bedroom.  I’ve decided the blocks are too busy to be sewn directly next to one another so I ordered some sashing from the Botanics line in Crosshatch in White and it arrived yesterday.  I have the backing bought AND the binding (although my first choice in binding, Line Sratch in Ash, I could not find anyfreakingwhere so I compromised with another grey from the line.)

Stop back in next Friday for more progress!

I’ve finished the top of the second block for month 5.

BOM 5 block 2 RW

Out of pure laziness I have decided to repeat the mirror image log cabin on the bottom portion rather than double the triangle portion I didn’t use on block one.  I already have the log cabin patterns printed and cut out . . . plus it’s way less work than the triangle portion since there are less sections to sew together.  So, yeah.  Laziness wins out.  See this post if you have no idea what I’m talking about.

Month 5 in the Beginner Paper Pieced BOM is a larger block and instead of making four, I only need to make two. Here’s the first one DONE:

BOM 5 RW

The block is supposed to look like this:

BOM Craftsy

I didn’t love how the bottom half was cut into two separate patterns, so I made a mirror image of the log cabin portion of the block and set them next to one another instead.  I wish I had added another color in for contrast, but other than that I think it looks great.

BOM 5 close up

I haven’t fully decided on block two, but I’m leanings towards just doubling the other half of the original bottom pattern with the triangles.  It will be green and white though.  That much I know.

I’ve also found a great blog called Le Challenge and I recently finished up a mini quilt for their monthly challenge.  The theme is “Direction” and the instructions are simply to create a project in any medium using your interpretation of the theme.

Here’s a sneak peek of the backside of my creation:

Le Challenge 1 Back RW

The full reveal won’t be till mid month.  I love this quilt already.  It came together in three days, used several of my favorite Cotton & Steel prints and just makes me happy.  It’s already hanging in my sewing room (aka The Guest Room).

I’ve also photographed my new Cotton & Steel blenders for Sunday Stash and photographed three other completed projects as well.  One of these days I’ll get them blogged.  I’d love to get all caught up with what I want to share so everything from then on can be current projects.  Ha!!  Wishful thinking.  I’d rather be sewing than blogging.

Chat at ya soon(ish).

I added to my stash in a big way this week.  One trip to the LQS and orders from three separate on-line stores.  Yeah.  I was bad.  In my defense I only meant to order from one on-line store, but I had to go to three to get everything I wanted.  I’m defending myself a lot these days aren’t I?  I ran across a blogger recently who proudly insisted “never apologize for your stash”  . . . so perhaps I’ll only apologize to the bank account (and The Husband) and not to you all.

Today I’m only going to share pictures of the LQS purchase.  It’s meager compared to the on-line ones, but it’s what I had time to photograph this week.  Also, I need to find my bag of clothespins before I can photograph the online order how I’d like.  The online order is mostly Cotton & Steel with two clearance impulse buys, an Anna Maria Horner (my first), a Sarah Watson and a Tula Pink.

Here’s why I actually went to the LQS in the first place.

Botanics with the Virginia Creeper RW

I picked up a few quarter yards of Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander for my paper piecing block of the month project.  I needed the green for sure and went ahead and grabbed the gold and white in the same pattern as well.  I normally don’t prefer gold, but it looks great with the grey and white fabrics in this line.  It’s a good thing I splurged too because the newest block uses bigger pieces than I have in the 10″ layer cake I purchased.

This little guy hopped into my bag while I was there.

Bunnies in the Clover 1 RW

I couldn’t help bringing him home.  I.  Freaking.  Love.  Bunnies.  And we have plenty of clover in the yard for him to nibble on.

Bunnies in the Clover 2 RW

Mollie Sparkles is probably rolling his eyes at the gooey mushy turn this post has taken.

It’s a fat quarter of Michael Miller fabrics and that’s all the selvage tells me.

Bunnies in the Clover 3 RW

I’m thinking some fussy cutting for a paper pieced polaroid picture block.  I saw this done over at the Stash Bee blog and was intrigued.

I’ve been working through the Beginner Paper Pieced Block of the Month at Quilt Art Designs.  Here’s Month 4 (April).  We were supposed to make four blocks, but so far I’ve only completed one.

Beginner BOM Month 4 Block 1 RW

See those weeds there?

Bane of my existence!

I did come across a great chemical free weed killer recipe though.

All natural.  Totally awesome.

It’s been helping.

But ya still gotta pull ’em. Even when they are dead.

I’ll share sometime.

I did, however, get the pieces cut for the other three blocks.

Beginner BOM Month 4 Block 2 pieces RW

Beginner BOM Month 4 Block 3 pieces RW

Beginner BOM Month 4 Block 4 pieces RW

I’m using a layer cake of Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander for this project and crossing my fingers I have enough fabric!  Paper piecing is great and all but a total fabric hog.  This month I was trying to use up scraps from previous blocks so some of the pieces juuuuuust barely fit.

I most likely won’t sew these up until I get my bed runner finished.

As is my new norm, comments are closed.  Here’s why.  Thanks for understanding.
