Question of the Day:  What’s your favorite kind of cake??

Chocolate malted Milk Cupcakes RW

Okay, so we’ve got our cupcakes that were dabbed with Chocolate Malt Ovaltine Soak.  Let’s put these puppies together once and for all.  Seriously, my lazy arse has been dragging this cupcake series on waaaaaay tooooooo looooong. Visit all the links below to see all the previous steps!

So, the next thing ya gotta do is microwave the Chocolate Malt Fudge Sauce for just a few seconds.  You want it to flow, but juuuuust barely.  It still needs to be thick.  Top each cupcake with a spoonful and put them all back into the fridge to set up.  There may be some drippage.  No worries, that’s what spoons were made for.  At least I think that’s what happened to the tray after the party . . . mom, you wanna fess up to scraping all the tasty bits off???  (Next time I might try piping the fudge sauce INTO the cupcake to see how that goes.)

My pal John says I can still use Woot so I’m using it now.  Woot.  Woot.  Woot.

Heck, let’s really sell it here.  Woot.  Woot.  Woot.  Woot.  A fourth woot.  I know, I know.  The excitement.

I seem to have overestimated the amount of time I had to blog this week.  Or underestimated the amount of sleep I needed.  Yeah, I went to bed early last night instead of writing this fabulous blog post.  I admit it.

So the rest of the cupcake saga plus a quick look into my nephews birthday party will have to wait till next week.

As will the details of my Foodie Pen Pals CHOPPED Challenge.  I mistakenly assumed reveal day would be Monday and it turns out it’s today.  Whoops.

Here’s a quick peek though.

I’ll be making Rice Pudding.

And I’ll be making it with these foodie gifts from Sonya.

This week will be full of mini recipes in preparation for my 5 year old nephew’s birthday party!

My job was cupcakes and seriously, I couldn’t have been happier with the assignment.

So, what will we be making today?

Today we’ll be making Chocolate Malted Milk Crumb.

Chocolate Malted Milk Crumb RW

Then Chocolate Malt Fudge Sauce.

Then Chocolate Cake.

Then Chocolate Malt Ovaltine Soak.

Then Chocolate Malt Frosting.

All adapted just slightly from the Momofuku Milk Bar Cookbook.

Here’s what we’re working towards.  Chocolate Malt Cupcakes.

Here we go.

Ugly Food Deserves To Be Loved Too . . . Or Does It?

DSC_0049 enh RW Title

This is the question I asked myself on Wednesday, March 20 at 10:01 a.m as I spotted these lovely cupcakes at the local chain grocery store.

My first thought was of the blog Cake Wrecks . . . where professional cakes go horribly, hilariously wrong.  If you haven’t checked out Cake Wrecks before, it’s a fun place to shake your sillies out.  The premise is simple.  Folks like me and you spy an ugly cake.  We laugh.  We whip out our camera phones.  We snap a bad picture.  We e-mail it to Cake Wrecks.   The Cake Wrecks team turns the bad pictures into a hilarious blog post.  We read.  We shake our sillies out.

It’s awesomesauce.  Or awesomefrosting in this case.

So naturally when I spied the above cupcakes I whipped out my camera phone and snapped a bad picture and at that moment decided to start my Cake Wrecks submitter career.  I’ve always secretly wanted to be a Cake Wrecks submitter, traveling the city in search of the ugliest cakes imaginable and discretely capturing their affront to cakeries for all of internet eternity.  I could be famous.  A famous Cake Wrecks submitter.

It was settled.  I would do it.
