It’s my blog and I can post ridiculously silly things if I want to.  And I do.  I really do.

Can anybody tell me why in the world there are blueberries on this bag of sugar?

Sugar RW

No?  That’s what I thought.

This is what I HATE about marketing.

This is a bag of sugar.  It is NOT I repeat NOT healthy like, say, blueberries.

Blueberries are good for you.

Sugar is not.

There are no blueberries inside this bag of sugar.

There is no earthly reason to put sugar on fresh blueberries.

Can it with the crappy marketing, sugar manufacturers, we are wise to your game.

Question of the Day:  What marketing ploys drive you nuts?

Did you know that you can make zucchini pickles?  Yes, well, you can.  Who needs cucumbers?

The recipe came from the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving.

Question of the Day:  Have you done any canning?  If so, what have you canned?

Beet pizza dough.  I promise it tastes better than it sounds.

Beet Pizza RW

The point here is not to make your pizza taste like beets, but to add some vegetably goodness to a meal often packed with gooey fatty cheese.  I LOVE cheese, but it’s not exactly considered a healthy staple.

It’s been a long while since I’ve made this, but I’m certain the recipe came from Never Homemaker.  Go ahead and click on over for the recipe if you want to make your own.

If you want some other fun alternatives to traditional pizza, check out my pizza posts!

Cauliflower Crust Pizza the recipe is way at the bottom so keep scrolling down till you get there mmmmm K?

Quinoa Crust Pizzathis is one of my favorites!

For a fun alternative way to eat beets, check out my one and only beet post!

Salted and Sauteed Beet Peels – take a slicer and curl those beets, then saute them till lightly crispy.  SO GOOD!  You’ll want to try this recipe.

Question of the Day: What’s your favorite pizza toppings?

Last Saturday for Random Picture of the Day I showed you the first picture I took with my DSLR camera.  Today I’m showing you the first picture I took with my I-Phone.

Strawberries.  Delicious strawberries.

Strawberries 1 RW

Yesterday was the Fourth of July and the Fourth of July just screams for strawberries doesn’t it?

The Husband and I have even been to a Strawberry Festival!

Strawberries 2 RW

This was in our pre-child days so naturally we took the motorcycle.  Festivals are never more fun than when you arrive on a motorcycle and snag a super close parking spot because a bike can squeeze in just about anywhere.

There were tons of craft booths and tons of berries.

We dined on strawberries dipped in white chocolate . . .

Strawberries 3 RW

as well as . . . what was that anyway?

Strawberries 4 RW

I can’t recall the name of it.  Strawberry Meringue?  Strawberry Shortcake?  Strawberry Cloud?  It had some funky name I think.  Anyway, it was whipped cream and strawberries over ice cream and some kind of light cake or meringue.  Supposedly the Strawberry Doughnuts were the big attraction but we didn’t try those.

Question of the Day:  What’s your favorite kind of berry? Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry . . .

Tomorrow is Supermom’s birthday!  I won’t say how old she is although she isn’t old enough for it to be a big deal so it would probably be no big deal if I did say, but still, it isn’t my place.  So I won’t say.

In light of this almost birthday I say we all send Supermom some birthday wishes!

I say we make her some birthday pancakes.

Birthday Breakfast Pancakes RW

And perhaps a cake.

Cake Baptism RW

Maybe send her some flowers!

African Violet RW

More flowers than that people, don’t be cheap.

Flowers RW

Balloons are a must of course.  Especially non-helium balloons that float magically over the register grate.

Balloon Fun RW

Happy (almost) Birthday Supermom!

Question of the Day: What’s your favorite birthday present to date?  Mine is my DSLR camera for sure.

I often claim to be a food satire blogger, but most of the Throwback Thursday and Random Picture of the Day posts I’ve been scheduling are anything but.  In fact, many of them have been thoughtful and introspective and full of stories or glimpses into my past.  Gah.  Who am I these days?  Well, today, I’m getting back to my roots.  Back to what makes me happiest.  Poking fun at things.

Or at the very least sharing pictures of weirdly shaped food.

First up, we have siamese grapes.

Grape Siamese Twins RW

Yes, I ate them.  They were delish.  Not that I use words like delish because I don’t and that squiggly red line WordPress puts under the word delish just confirms it.  No more using the word delish.

Next up, we have a radish that grew a baby radish.

Weird Radish RW

It was also delish.  Dangit!  For the record, WordPress says I shouldn’t use the word dangit either.

Finally, we have a heart shaped potato!

Heart Shaped Potato 1 RW

Fun.  Fun.  Probably should have used this pic around Valentines Day.

Heart Shaped Potato 2 RW

Nothing says love like a heart shaped potato amiright?  Crap.  Apparently amiright isn’t a word either.

I’d better just stop now before WordPress gives me an F on this post.

Question of the Day:  Ran across any oddly shaped foods lately?

The Husband and I have a long standing fight that I don’t think we will ever come to terms on.  Yes, we will most likely be fighting for the rest of our lives.  I mean it.  Forever and ever.

You see, he thinks that the best cake is found in his hometown.  I think the best cake is found in our current town.

One year for his birthday I ordered him a cake from the best cake place and instead of it saying Happy Birthday, I had it say “THIS is the best cake.”  Because if this cake could talk, that is most definitely what it would say.

Cake Best RW

Shout out to my old boss Steve who turned me on to this bakery in the first place!

– Joanna

Question of the Day – Do you have a favorite bakery?  A place you ALWAYS buy from when not making homemade?

Today’s random food picture of the day is a warning to food bloggers everywhere . . . especially those like me who prefer to shoot their edible subjects in the great outdoors.

If you take your cookie out in the snow . . .

Cookie in the Snow 1 RW

said cookie will get covered in snow.

Cookie in the Snow 2 RW

You can still eat it of course.  And while I LOVE SNOW, snow does make for a slightly soggy cookie.

Let this be your official warning.

– Joanna

Question of the Day:  What’s your favorite TV show.

Doughnuts I made from Edible Ash’s new doughnut cookbook.

– Joanna

Question of the Day:  What’s your favorite kind of doughnut?  I’m a fan of chocolate glazed boston cream filled.
